The concentrations of total phosphorus (PT) and total nitrogen (NT) in the San José dam, located on the outskirts of the city of San Luis Potosí, are greater than 0.2 and 2.0 mg/L, respectively. These concentrations exceed the permissible limits (LP) of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) of NT (1.9 mg/L) and PT (0.1 mg/L), indicating eutrophic states. In turn, eutrophic states are evidenced by excessive algae growth and bad odors from the dam. To date, however, the polluting sources and emissions of the San José dam hydrographic subbasin are quantitatively unknown. For these reasons, the objectives of this work were: i) to determine the area of the hydrographic subbasin of the San José dam, ii) to describe the physical environment of the study area, iii) to determine the trophic state of the San José dam, El Peaje and El Potosino, and iv) to develop the inventory of polluting emissions from point and diffuse sources of the San José dam hydrographic subbasin. To do this: i) the area of the subbasin was delimited by geoprocessing data from the hydrological regions and runoff areas upstream of the San José dam, ii) the physical environment of the subbasin was described by preparing maps of the surface geology and the types of soil, land use and vegetation, economic sectors, and the hydrographic network of the sub-basin, iii) the trophic state of the San José, El Peaje and El Potosino dams was determined through the indicators used by the OECD and the Center Pan American of Sanitary Engineering and Environmental Sciences (CEPIS) as well as by the Trophic State Index (IET) using the values of chlorophyll “a” (Chl), transparency with Secchi disk (DS), PT and NT and the Water Pollution Level (WPL) by PT and iv) the inventory of pollution emissions, from point and diffuse sources, was determine using the discharge volume of collected and uncollected domestic wastewater, the average annual volume of natural runoff from land uses and vegetation, and the typical concentrations reported for biochemical oxygen demand (DBO), total suspended solids (SST), NT and PT in residual discharges and land and vegetation uses. The San José dam sub-basin presented an area of 265 km2, a surface geology composed of rhyolite rocks and feozems, regosols, and xerosols. The use of land and vegetation was secondary (36%), natural grassland (34%), pine forest (24%), human settlements (3%), induced grassland (2%), and bodies of water (1% ). Eleven types of economic sectors were reported in the area, the most important being retail trade and manufacturing. The subbasin consisted of 23 streams, 2 rivers, and 3 dams, where 6 water quality monitoring stations were located. Regarding the trophic state, according to the OECD and CEPIS indicators, the concentrations of NT (from 0.17 mg/L to 869.04 mg/L), PT (from 0.01 mg/L to 0.27 mg/L). Chl (from 0.5 mg/m3 to 240.0 mg/m3), and DS (from 0.1 m to 4.0 m) indicated euthropic states. The IETs of the San José, El Peaje, and El Potosino dams were 27 to 84%, 38 to 95%, and 17 to 92%, respectively, indicating high biological productivity due to eutrophication. According to the WPL by PT, the San José dam was eight times its capacity, which explained the accelerated eutrophication process at the dam. According to the inventory of DBO, SST, NT, and PT emissions, these reached up to 133.0 t/year, 643.4 t/year, 24.4 t/year, and 4.5 t/year, respectively, from both point and diffuse sources. Results from this study allowed identifying the sources and quantities of the pollution emissions in the hydrographic sub-basin of the San José dam that cause eutrophication."

Chihuahua, Coahuila, Durango, and Zacatecas, encompasses an area of 400 x 350 km2
. It was
analyzed using two geophysical techniques, aeromagnetic and remote sensing with ASTER,
to characterize the magmatic sources that contributed to polymetallic mineralization in this
area.
The analysis begins with a series of mathematical processes that were applied to the
information provided by the Mexican Geological Service, identifying five anomalies, called
Las Uvas with intensities at the Reduced Magnetic Field at the Pole ranging from -100 to 467
nT, San Antonio from -112 to 367 nT, Velardeña from -138 to 461 nT, La Ojuela-Platosa from -
125 to 458 nT, and La Ojuela-Rabioso from -136 to 389 nT. It was possible to calculate the
depth of the plutonic bodies that generate these magnetic responses, as well as to obtain
their geological-geophysical model in 2D and 3D. The 2D models allowed to outline the
plutonic bodies, correlating them with the calculated depths and representing the geological
formations and substrates in the vicinity of the anomalies. As for the 3D models, it was
possible to identify three different geological units. The first one is associated with intrusive
igneous bodies, the second one with differentiated intrusive igneous bodies, and the third
one with the skarn region. The application of several mathematical filters allowed us to
identify the aeromagnetic lineaments representing the fault and fracture system, with a
predominant direction of 125° and 165° NW-SE, as well as 60° NE-SW.
The remote sensing technique using ASTER-type images provided by the United States
Geological Survey through their VNIR+SWIR range bands allowed for geological
discrimination over the area of the aeromagnetic anomalies. The purpose was to identify
lithologies with an abundance of iron oxides and hydroxides, magnesium oxides, carbonaterich zones, as well as the influences of argillaceous and phyllitic imprints that, through a
weathering process, have surface manifestations. Finally, the combination of both geophysical methods implemented in this research
allowed for a more precise identification of areas with geological, mining, and economic
interest, with the potential for economic exploration."

"El acceso al agua es esencial para el desarrollo sostenible y el bienestar humano, por lo tanto, la ubicación precisa de fuentes de recursos hídricos, en específico del agua subterránea desempeña un papel crucial. La prospección tradicional de agua subterránea ha involucrado perforaciones aleatorias y costosas, por lo que la aplicación previa de métodos geofísicos resulta ser una alternativa más eficaz. Por consiguiente, el objetivo principal de esta investigación es localizar zonas con posibilidades acuíferas en el graben Villa de Reyes, S.L.P., mediante una combinación de técnicas geofísicas, que incluye magnetometría aérea y terrestre, así como sondeos eléctricos verticales (SEV’s). Además, se realizó un análisis estadístico multivariado incluyendo metodologías como análisis de componentes principales (PCA) y análisis de clúster (CA) a los SEV’s. Finalmente, se generaron tres perfiles geológicos mediante la integración las metodologías mencionadas anteriormente. Los resultados revelaron que los métodos geofísicos son capaces de proporcionar información valiosa sobre la ubicación y distribución de los acuíferos subterráneos. La magnetometría aérea y terrestre demostraron ser efectivas en la identificación de fallas y/o fracturas. En estas estructuras se identificaron zonas de alta conductividad eléctrica, que a menudo corresponden a zonas saturadas. La correlación geofísica-geológica permitió determinar cinco unidades geoeléctricas: unidad I (6-20 Ω.m), unidad II (21-30 Ω.m ), unidad III (31-70 Ω.m), unidad IV (71-120 Ω.m) y unidad V (>120 Ω.m). La unidad II fue asociada a una capa de arenas y presentó las características con mayores posibilidades acuíferas. Los resultados estadísticos mostraron el clúster dos como el grupo que contiene los SEV’s que más probabilidad presentan de asociarse a agua subterránea. En conclusión, con la integración de métodos geofísicos y estadísticos se identificó que las zonas que presentan características hídricas más favorables corresponden a la unidad II (arenas) y a las zonas de fracturas dentro del graben Villa de Reyes."; "Access to water is essential for sustainable development and human well-being;
therefore, the precise location of water resources, specifically groundwater, plays a
crucial role.
Traditional groundwater prospecting has involved random and costly drilling, making
the prior application of geophysical methods a more effective alternative.
Consequently, the main objective of this research is to locate potential aquifer zones
in the Villa de Reyes graben, S.L.P., through a combination of geophysical
techniques, including aerial and terrestrial magnetometry, as well as vertical
electrical soundings (VES). In addition, a multivariate statistical analysis was
conducted, including methodologies such as Principal Component Analysis (PCA)
and Cluster Analysis (CA) on the VES data. Finally, three geological profiles were
generated by integrating the methodologies.
The results revealed that geophysical methods can provide valuable information
about the location and distribution of underground aquifers. Aerial and terrestrial
magnetometry proved effective in identifying faults and/or fractures. In these
structures, zones of high electrical conductivity were identified, which often
correspond to saturated areas. The geophysical-geological correlation allowed for
the determination of five geo-electric units: Unit I (6-20 Ω.m), Unit II (21-30 Ω.m),
Unit III (31-70 Ω.m), Unit IV (71-120 Ω.m), and Unit V (>120 Ω.m). Unit II was
associated with a layer of sand and exhibited the most favorable aquifer
characteristics.
Statistical results showed cluster two as the group containing VES data that are most
likely to be associated with groundwater.
In conclusion, through the integration of geophysical and statistical methods, it was
identified that Unit II exhibits the most favorable hydrological characteristics,
corresponding to sand layers and fracture zones within the Villa de Reyes graben."

The present research focuses on analyzing how the distribution and composition of the hydrogeological units of the Independence Basin Aquifer System, located in Guanajuato, determine its hydrodynamic and hydrogeochemical functioning. The methodology employed included both qualitative and quantitative analyses. A conceptual model was developed based on the hydrogeological interpretation of five electrical resistivity profiles, piezometric and hydraulic data for the period 2015 - 2021. Regarding quantitative analysis, mathematical models (numerical modelling with MODFLOW and least square adjustments) were employed as tools to simulate the current and future hydrodynamics following the same trend. In addition, chemical characterization of the water was conducted to identify the main hydrogeochemical processes. The results obtained provide a comprehensive understanding of the hydrodynamic and hydrogeochemical functioning of the aquifer system. The distribution of the hydrogeological units is defined by tectonic structures, with the thickest layers located in the center of the basin, approximately 1800 m thick. Resistivities of 10 to 28 and 10 to 39 Ωm were determined for the units comprising the fractured and granular aquifer, respectively. Calibration for the MODFLOW model, both in steady-state (year 2015) and transient (years 2016 - 2021) regimes, showed a reasonable match between calculated and observed hydraulic head values (r > 0.98; NSE > 0.95; RMSE < 12.39 m; SEE < 1.67 m). The aquifer system exhibited non-availability characteristics according to the mass balance. On the other hand, six nonlinear models efficiently fitted (R2 = 90%) to the piezometric data from observation wells. The predicted drawdowns by MODFLOW ranged from 1 to 20 m and from 2 to 40 m, while for least squares were from 0.12 to 14 m and from 0.7 to 31 m for the years 2026 and 2032, respectively. These methodologies were statistically comparable, as determined by comparing both strategies through a non-parametric linear regression model and evaluating the confidence intervals of the regression parameters (β0=0, IC95; β1=1, IC95). The prediction of levels in the granular aquifer for remote years allowed for the observation of a sectional drawdown in the system. Two main types of groundwater were identified: 1) calcium bicarbonate (Ca - HCO3) associated with the granular aquifer, and 2) sodium bicarbonate (Na - HCO3) corresponding to the fractured aquifer. Additionally, hydrogeochemical processes such as ion exchange, silicate weathering, carbonate dissolution, and mixing were determined. The latter, from the fracture to granular aquifer, was caused by the over-pumping and hydraulic connection between them, resulting in a predominance of Na - HCO3 water type. Overall, the Independence Basin Aquifer System has experienced slow, heterogeneous, and constant drawdown since the beginning of its exploitation. This has led to significant drawdown cones, especially in the center of the basin where the thickest aquifer layers are located, and mixing is more evident. Therefore, given the unfavorable predictions for future years, there is a need to develop strategies for planning and management the water resource in the area."
