"The continuous discovery of new vaccines and therapies invites us to develop more efficient systems for the production of proteins, enzymes and metabolites. The choice of a suitable host and optimal production conditions are crucial for the further processing of a biotechnological and/or pharmaceutical grade product. Escherichia coli and some species of the genus Bacillus are the most frequently used prokaryotes for the industrial production of recombinant proteins. These organisms are favored over others, because their culture in large scale systems and high cell densities is generally easier and economical. So, in this work, we report the heterologous expression of two cytokins that have wide application in biomedicine, as they are, the hIL-2 and hIFN-y using as a model the Gram-positive bacterium B. Subtilis, and also, the biochemical and bioinformatics characterization of a psychrophilic superoxide dismutase produced in E. coli, from the grass Deschampsia antarctica E. Dev, whose extreme growing conditions make it a suitable model to search for enzymatic activities that may have wide application in the food, cosmetic and pharmaceutical industries."
