dc.description.abstract"The Valley of San Luis Potosi (VSLP) has the highest population density in the area of the municipality of San Luis Potosi and Soledad de Graciano Sánchez, which have had during its history a continuous change in land use. Derived from these changes and conditions of natural environment, it results in the deterioration of water quality, in addition to over-exploitation of the aquifer system causing depression in their groundwater levels. Due to the current situation of the aquifer system it is necessary to assess water quality and aquifer vulnerability, in order to have a holistic view of the problem and present objective, to meet the need for a proper and efficient use of water. VSLP the aquifer system is formed by a shallow aquifer (hook), a medium consisting of granular material aquifer and a deep aquifer consists of fractured volcanic rock. The comprehensive evaluation was considering hanging aquifer through water samples obtained in wells and medium deep aquifer was grouped, using samples taken from wells. The assessment of the water quality aspects of NOM-127-SSA1-1994 and water quality indices relating to each activity (human consumption, agricultural and industrial use) were considered. For the analysis of vulnerability of the aquifer system, "DRASTIC" methodology was applied. The results denote lower quality for hanging aquifer compared to medium and deep aquifer. In the shallow aquifer, water use for agricultural activities is good to conditional, in contrast to the use of water for human and industrial consumption which showed a poor quality in most of the VSLP, while the middle and a deep aquifer had Water quality mostly good to conditional uses in all three. The aquifer vulnerability of the system shows that the shallow aquifer, urban and metropolitan area is very vulnerable, while in the medium deep aquifer, the downtown area has vulnerability ranges from medium to low. The ratio of water quality and aquifer vulnerability have good correlation."
