dc.description.abstract"The preparations of metal nanoparticles such as Au and Ag have a significant importance in biomedical and catalytic applications, and control the shape and size of NPs are objectives sought by many active research groups worldwide. In order to control the size and shape, I will present results of chemical reduction of metallic salts in presence of CTAB as a surfactant, where the change in the volume of Ag+ ions, provides elements in order to predict the size and shape of the NPs. Also, we are seeking the understanding of the role played by silver ions in the anisotropic growth of NPs. AuNRs were synthesized by chemical seed-assisted reduction, in which ascorbic acid was used as a reducing agent. The AuNRs with an aspect ratio (R) between 2 and 5 were obtained by varying the amount of AgNO3 added. A physical stability analysis of AuNRs was performed, as a function of temperature and time, obtaining better results at low temperatures. The samples were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and high resolution (HRTEM), Ultraviolet - Visible Spectroscopy (UV-Vis) and Inductively Coupled Plasma (ICP). The results obtained in this study show that the amount added of Ag+ ions modify the aspect ratio (R) of the AuNRs. Also the amendment to the synthesis protocol of AuNRs (Nikoobath & El Sayed), solved the problem of reproducibility and uniformity in the synthesized AuNRs. It was also possible to determine the storage conditions (temperature) for securing the physical or structural stability versus time NRs."
