dc.description.abstract"Precipitation in Mexico and Central America have bimodal behavior, that is, it presents a maximum in June and a second maximum in September; while the months of July and August are characterized by a deficit of precipitation. This behavior in precipitation is known as Mid-Summer Drought, Canícula, or Intraestival Drought depending on the area where it occurs. Although Canícula is not completely a drought regime, it is a period whererains decrease in most of our country. Rains are caused by upward or convective humid air flows. Upward and downward air flows in the atmosphere play an essential role in the development and inhibition of convective systems. The variation in the magnitude and behavior of these flows determines the precipitation regime in a given area. The Tropic of Cancer crosses the center-north of the Mexican Republic (~ 23.5 ° N) and is characterized by being a region with descending air flows due to the atmospheric Hadley cell that extends from the Ecuador, where there is an ascent of air. The increase in the intensity and extension of the descending air can cause the convective activity to be less intense or even completely inhibit the convective development, resulting in the presence of the Mid-Summer Drought in our country. This research analyzes the period from April to November 2014 of the vertical air flows simulated with the numerical model WRF. The results indicated that, in the center of the country, the structure of monthly averages of vertical velocity coincides with the already known distribution of the number of convective events calculated based on satellite data and that exhibit a minimum in the months of July and August. The heights reached by cold and dry air descents and the area where convection is partially inhibited were estimated. The intensification or weakening of the Hadley cell was found to modulate the intensity of convective events in large parts of Mexico in the summer season."es_MX
